5 reasons to live in Spain

5 reasons to live in Spain
11 Sep

Spain is not only a paradise for surfers, vanlifers, pilgrims gathering annually in Santiago de Compostela and British expats, but it is also becoming a popular destination for many Czechs who are not satisfied with a short holiday and prefer to have their own summer apartment where they can retreat and recharge their batteries at any time. Why is Spain such a desirable destination? Here are five reasons why living in Spain is a good idea.

1. EXCELLENT REAL ESTATE OPPORTUNITIES

Foreign investment in real estate in Spain is only blossoming, and the Spanish government is positive about these financial injections from foreign nationals. Spain is known for its affordable housing, so it's no wonder that many Czechs are buying summer apartments or year-round villas where they can find a haven whenever they want. Spain is also a popular retirement destination, and although British seniors still predominate in this regard, Czech households are beginning to take advantage of this option (even as a backup plan for the future).

2. CLIMATE AND BEACHES

One of the main reasons to choose Spain as your summer home is its naturally excellent climate, endless snow-white beaches and plenty of space. Due to its size, Spain combines a warm Mediterranean climate with hot sunny summers and not too cold winter months. In the north, in the Pyrenees, on the other hand, snow and skiing lovers will be in for a treat.

Spain also has the most Blue Flag beaches in the world - meaning they meet environmental standards. This is a status Spain is justifiably proud of - and has held for more than 30 years! At the same time, the country also offers a whole host of hidden little beaches where you'll be completely on your own and don't have to worry about the crowded big areas in the tourist centres.

3. SPANISH CULTURE AND FOOD

Who wouldn't be attracted to Spanish culture with its toreadors, famous artists and architects such as Antoni Gaudí and Salvador Dalí and, of course, its delicious national cuisine? The dishes full of seafood and local vegetables are the envy of the world. Moreover, the Spanish dining culture with their tapas makes an ordinary dinner a social event.

4. LIFESTYLE AND HEALTH LEVEL

A relaxed lifestyle goes hand in hand with excellent healthcare, which ranks eighth according to the prestigious Lancet medical magazine. Spaniards simply know how to enjoy life - whether through the proverbial siesta, life's outlook or simply a different perception of time. People in Spain place great emphasis on relaxation and quality time with family and friends, and stress is a dirty word.

5. LANGUAGE

Worried that English won't be useful in Spain? You don't have to! Around 60% of Spaniards speak excellent English and if you decide to learn Spanish, most Spaniards will welcome you with open arms. What's more, there are language schools and private teachers everywhere who will be happy to help you learn. Spanish has its own unmistakable charm and if you practice it while interacting with the locals, you'll soon be a born Spaniard!
